Not Sure What to Put on Your Windows?
Window coverings are anything that is placed in, on, or around a window, be it either inside or outside of the frame. Windows are the main source of natural light entering a building, so coverings are often used to control how much light comes into a room. The following are some examples of what is available.
Shutters are considered the most common type of exterior window covering. These will often consist of a wooden frame that is either filled in with panels or slats. There are generally 2 shutters that are mounted on hinges on each side of a window, and when they are closed, they help to keep out light and maintain the temperature within a building, in addition to providing excellent privacy. Shutters can be placed on the inside of a window too.
Drapes, or curtains, are both popular types of interior window coverings. The thickness of the material will often determine how much light can enter a particular room. For example, heavier material will often let in the minimum amount of light and are often called blackout curtains. They can also prevent drafts, and provide a good amount of privacy.
Sheer or lace curtains, however, will bring in more light, in addition to allowing the people inside to see out. Privacy is not always an issue with these types of curtains, though, as people outside will still not be able to see in. This kind of curtains, however, will allow drafts to come in and cold air.
Another window cover is blinds, which can either be vertical or horizontal. They can be made from different materials including wood, vinyl, or material, and are available in different colors and designs.
